Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Billy Joel (middle l. and r. with Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and John Venditto, r.) have a long friendship.
Billy Joel is in a New York State of mind — and that’s good news for Gov. Cuomo.
The Piano Man has agreed to headline a Dec. 3 fund-raiser for Andrew Cuomo’s 2014 reelection campaign, the Daily News has learned. The gala will double as a celebration of Cuomo’s 56th birthday.

Top tickets will cost $50,000, which will buy a table for 10 and three VIP passes to meet Joel. That’s double what a $25,000 “host” designation cost last year, when Cuomo rang in his 55th birthday at the Waldorf-Astoria.
The location of the December bash has not yet been determined.

Joel has a history with the Cuomo family. He met Andrew Cuomo’s dad, then-Gov. Mario Cuomo, in 1989, in seeking help for struggling Long Island fishermen.
Andrew Cuomo rekindled the friendship because of a mutual interest in motorcycles and boats, and common friends in the Hamptons. They spent an afternoon with volunteers cleaning Oyster Bay Harbor in Nassau County, and on 9/11, they took a motorcycle ride with firefighters to Ground Zero.
