Miley Cyrus blew through the "Today" show on Monday, sitting down with Matt Lauer for a one-on-one interview and performing "Wrecking Ball," "We Can't Stop," and even "Party in the U.S.A." on the plaza stage.
The 20-year-old current "it girl" of pop music appeared in tiny white shorts that showed off her rear, and a dramatic cropped white tee.

Though it was a relatively tame performance for Cyrus - who has since denounced twerking, according to her 'Saturday Night Live' opening monologue - she was flanked by dancers in flower, rainbow, and mushroom costumes.
In the interview, right off the bat Lauer asked the singer about her much talked about Video Music Awards performance with Robin Thicke, and what he described as a "strategic hot mess."

"I don't ever really plan to offend people," Cyrus said, about the backlash. "But I think people are not open to what they don't understand."
"It went exactly as we planned… I mean, it's a month later and we're still talking about it."

The provocative performance and subsequent music video for "Wrecking Ball" - in which she appears fully nude - prompted Lauer to also declare that he'll never be able to look at foam fingers and wrecking balls the same again.
"This is just who I am," she said. "I think it's only hard if you're trying to be something you're not."

Lauer also asked if the "sexual side" of Cyrus is merely a phase, and her response was enough to turn the 55-year-old host a little red.
"Well I heard when you turn 40 that's when things start to go a little less sexual," she said.

"Don't say that," Lauer laughed.
"Around that time I heard that's when people don't have sex anymore," Cyrus said - ignoring the family friendly atmosphere for a minute.

When Lauer divulged his age, she quipped, "oh then you're really not sexual."
The singer went on to comment on the new feud with Sinead O'Connor, in the wake of a back and forth exchange stemming from the Irish singer's open letter warning against Cyrus becoming a "prostitute" of the music business.
Cyrus apparently only had nice things to say, and seemed to dismiss the feud saying she's still a "big fan."
"My thoughts of her started amazing," the singer said.
"I think she's an incredible artist and an awesome songwriter and I was really inspired by her for my 'Wrecking Ball' video… I don't know how someone can start a fight with somebody that's saying 'hey I really respect you and I really like what you did.'"
"I'm a big fan of hers so it didn't really matter," she added. "It's all good, you can write as many open letters as you want."
