LOS ANGELES - With the show's sleek, angular set as a backdrop, Emmy Awards presenters and performers took a few minutes to perfect their lines the day before the ceremony.

Allison Janney, Anna Faris, Don Cheadle and Carrie Underwood were among those rehearsing Saturday at the Nokia Theatre, where the 65th annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be presented Sunday.

Janney and Faris play mother and daughter on their new show, "Mom," and channeled that vibe in their rehearsal. Wearing a silver mini-dress with matching sandals, Faris was all energy. After missing one of her lines, she joked, "Yeah, I'm going to be great at this." Janney, willowy in a black T-shirt, jeans and boots, seemed studious by contrast — or maybe it was just the dark-framed glasses she was wearing.

They presented two awards in front of an audience of rehearsal actors and seat-saving placards. When they finished, Faris tried to thank the crew from the stage, but the microphone had been turned off. She and Janney then walked through the audience, looking for their seats.

Cheadle, in a polo shirt and jeans, delivered a monologue about television's impact on culture by discussing coverage of two key events of 50 years ago: The assassination of President John F. Kennedy and the stateside debut of the Beatles on "The Ed Sullivan Show."

Underwood's performance is set to immediately follow Cheadle's presentation, but she rehearsed later Saturday.

Stars were rewarded for rehearsing at a "giving suite" near their dressing rooms that raised money for the Television Academy Foundation while offering luxury freebies. Though high-end hotel stays and handmade leather goods were given away, Janney was most taken with Zoomer, a robot dog that responds to vocal commands and tummy scratches. She grabbed one as a gift for her three dogs at home.
