BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- Television's leading ladies stepped out Friday night to celebrate at Variety and Women in Film's annual Emmys soiree.

Emmys parties like this one – a fancy affair at an Italian restaurant in Beverly Hills – impress Jane Lynch.

"They are totally glamorous," the "Glee" star said on the white carpet outside. "Everybody is dressed up and wearing their finest. It's kind of cool to look around and see people you admired on television and maybe who you never thought you'd get to meet in your lifetime."

Actresses like Roma Downey, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Laura Prepon were there too, mingling under clear glass ball decorations that hung from the ceiling and white orchids on side tables. The event honors the female nominees for Sunday night's Emmy awards.

Sarah Hyland of "Modern Family" lamented that Emmy week parties in Los Angeles are crowded.

"It's very hard to move," she said, wearing a red lace dress.

And Prepon, wearing white high heels with intricate black detailing, talked about her Netflix show "Orange is the New Black," promising surprises in the second season. The series tells the story of women serving time in federal prison.

Prepon even shared tricks of the trade.

"They taught us how to make a razor out of a toothbrush," Prepon said. "That was an easy one."

Netflix earned Emmy nominations this year for its original drama series "House of Cards" starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. Prepon said she doesn't know if the same fate is in store for "Orange is the New Black." But she says "hopefully people on the show will be nominated next year."
