NBC is developing a miniseries based on Johnny Carson's life.

Johnny Carson will return to the NBC airwaves through a new miniseries based on the legendary "Tonight Show" host's life, the network announced Thursday.

The new show, which has yet to cast the part of Carson, will be based on the upcoming biography of the comedian, "Carson the Magnificent: An Intimate Portrait," written by Bill Zehme.

The show will touch on Carsons "often secluded off-camera life and friendships he made throughout his career as one of the most beloved TV personalities of all time," according to a release.
