Oprah says she almost suffered a nervous breakdown last year while filming “The Butler” and running around the country interviewing celebrities for her struggling network — but that’s not such a bad thing to admit.
It turns out, all the money in the world — the mansion, the trips, the days when she gave cars out to her audience — doesn’t insulate her from life’s troubles.

With Oprah, revelations like this humanize her. It’s just one of those things, because we all still can feel pain that same way.
All she did is what she’s always done. Oprah talked about her weak spot and we all nodded our heads and said, “me too.” All you can do is shake your head and say, “God, she’s just like we all are.”
Just listen to what she said: “I thought … if I don’t calm down I’m going be in serious trouble.”
Who hasn’t said that to themselves at one time or another?
Everyone at home has had the feeling of being overwhelmed or having the weight of the world on their shoulders, and it makes people feel better to look over at her and go, “Look, if it can happen to Oprah ...”

We all balance so many things — work, children and who knows what. Life can be a lot to handle and knowing that someone like Oprah — who seems to have it all — can be on the verge of a breakdown is actually kind of comforting.
Either way, she did what Oprah always does. She was down on her knees and she talked about it – with everyone.
But it goes deeper, because people tend to think the fatter your wallet, the more stress-free your life is, and that just isn’t the truth. Money does not solve all your problems. But it could probably buy you truck-loads of Pinot Grigio. Then again, with Oprah money in the bank, you probably could take some of it, go off to Bali for two weeks, do a little yoga, have a little mai tai and call it a vacation.
Kathie Lee Gifford: Not that I drink mai tais; not my drink of choice.
IN PERSON, CHER’S A THING OF BEAUTY
Cher looks unbelievable and amazing. She’s one of those people who you think probably looks beautiful only on TV, but when you see them in person you’re like, “Ew.” Well, she’s the opposite of that. When you look at her in person, you want to touch her face. She’s gorgeous.

JULIA’S ‘VEEP’ IS THEIR WINNER
We love Julia Louis-Dreyfus!
KLG: Hoda got me turned on to HBO’s “Veep” like crazy.

Hoda Kotb: There’s nothing else to watch. Oh, maybe that James Spader thing [“Blacklist”], “Nashville” and “The Voice.”
KLG: Oh, and “House of Cards” is so smart, and Robin Wright is so awesome.
SO LILO IS ON THE UPSWING
And now Lindsay Lohan. It seems that she’s on the mend. It’s one of those things where you feel like you’re watching a slow-motion train wreck. A lot of times when you see someone driving over the cliff, you think there’s no coming back. But she seems like she’s slowed the train. The fact that we haven’t seen her in the paper every single day — that’s a good thing!

But very few people’s careers span decades. When Cher came on our show Monday, she arrived with two people. Some of these wonder kids come in with an entourage of 30.
These young stars think it’s going to last forever, but very few people’s careers can last 60 years. It takes ages to get wisdom — and these kids just don’t have the wisdom yet. We’ve learned a career in anything is a marathon, not a sprint.
MAKEUP FOR HD: IT’S TOUGH TO FACE
Let’s just put this out there: Makeup is critical. It’s the whole freakin’ thing. Without Mary Kahler, our makeup artist, there’s no show.
Especially with high-definition TVs revealing every crack and crevice!
We actually call it High Dementia television.
HK: You know, HD was coming out right when you started.
KLG: The first day, I said to everybody, “My timing is ridiculous. I’m eight years older, 10 pounds heavier and just in time for HD TV.” Then you start to panic, because you get older and you think, “Oh, I’ll just put more and more on.”
Meanwhile, under-eye concealer is one of those you can really blob on because you’re like, “I’m feeling really old.”
KLG: Now you got big white bags as opposed to big black bags under your eyes. But then again, I’ve been called a big white bag, too.
A-DRESSING FASHION FLAWS AT EMMYS
We love, love, love Lena Dunham. Like girl-crush love. But even though we wanted to love it — we’ve got to be honest — we hated her dress at the Emmys. Everyone did. But you know what we also know? Something that looks beautiful in person can look awful on camera. It’s the way that light hits it and all that sort of thing. So we try to be honest without being cruel.

Now Sofia Vergara is amazing and always looks fabulous. We loved her Emmy dress, but it might be fun to see her in something less hour-glass shaped, just to make the rest of us feel a little better. When she came on [“Today”] with us — It was “no makeup day,” but she refused to go on without makeup. She said: “I came out of the womb with full makeup on.” Meanwhile, we looked like death. We looked worse than dogs.
Watch Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb every day at 10 a.m. during the fourth hour of NBC's "Today" show.
