"Baywatch" babe Pamela Anderson will have to do more than just a quick sprint on the beach when she runs in November's New York City Marathon.
The woman famous for bounding across the beach in a revealing red bathing suit is ready to pound 26.2 miles of pavement across the boroughs.
No, really.
Pamela Anderson is running in the ING New York City Marathon in November — and yes, the “Baywatch” babe trains on the beach. And, surprisingly, she only needs one sports bra.
“People think I’m crazy,” says Anderson. But that has never stopped the buxom blond before. She has posed nude for PETA and Playboy, mastered the Argentine tango and skating figure eights for stints on “Dancing With the Stars” and the U.K.’s “Dancing on Ice,” and has published two novels (“Star” and “Star Struck”).
Bottom line, she knows how to get results. “I like to do things that people think maybe I can’t do, and this is definitely one of those things,” says Anderson, calling the Daily News from her Malibu mansion after shopping for Nike running sneakers with her trainer. “You know, somehow I learned to dance, learned to skate, and all these things that people thought I couldn’t do. Now, I’m running a marathon.”
The Canadian-turned-California girl volunteered for the punishing run to raise $500,000 on Crowdrise for Sean Penn’s J/P Haitian Relief Organization, which provides victims of the country’s 2010 earthquake with new homes, health care and schooling. The charity wanted her to simply hug their elite runners crossing the Central Park finish line, but Anderson, who has visited Haiti twice since the devastating disaster, suggested taking it a step further.
“People do things for other people that they wouldn’t ordinarily do for themselves,” she says. “Haiti is such a magical place. It has a real special place in my heart ... I have a lot of faith that I will be able to get through it. I’m committed.”
The actress-model is dedicated, but can she really finish a four- or five-hour version of “Baywatch’s” opening sequence?
“People tell me that I really don’t know what I’m getting into, but that’s kind of the story of my life,” Anderson says. “I’ll just go with it.”
The “Barb Wire” bombshell has been building her stamina all summer on elliptical and Stairmaster machines, doing ab work and lifting 5-pound weights at home.
All that’s left is to actually train for the race.
“I really haven’t attacked the running thing,” she admits. “I’ve never been a runner. I’ve never even run across the street hardly before.”
