Jesse L. Martin (r.) bears a striking resemblance to the real Marvin Gaye in the upcoming biopic, 'Sexual Healing.’
Mercy, mercy me, doesn’t Jesse L. Martin look the splitting image of Marvin Gaye.
The first footage of the upcoming biopic “Sexual Healing” hit the Internet Thursday with the former “Law & Order” star playing Gaye from the early days of his legendary career to his tragic death in 1984.

The four minutes of footage show Gaye grappling with personal demons, predatory record company execs and the spectre of his own preacher father (played by “Beasts of the Southern Wild’s” Dwight Henry), who would ultimately shoot his own son dead.
"Is there a problem?” asks Martin’s Gaye in one scene. “Yest there is, I'm Marvin Gaye.”

It’s a promising sign for the beleaguered indie project from director Julien Temple. The movie, which was dropped by Focus Features early this year, had to abruptly halt filming in June when funding ran out, ScreenDaily.com reported at the time.
There, however, is still no release date yet for “Sexual Healing,” which also stars Brendan Gleeson.
