If Idris Elba's star is in the ascendant, it will surely never so rise so high as when he premieres his role as iconic freedom fighter Nelson Mandela, in the forthcoming 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom'.

In the film, due in UK cinemas on 3 January 2014, Elba portrays the South African legend on the journey from his childhood in a rural village, through to his election as President of South Africa - via his battles as a lawyer in South African courtrooms, and his 27-year imprisonment as a terrorist of the state.
