Given that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas were a world apart, it’s no wonder they spent their shared birthday separately.
She was in China, and he attended the Emmys in Los Angeles.
The couple, who recently separated after 13 years of marriage, celebrated their birthday Wednesday. Zeta-Jones turned 44, and Douglas is 69, reports E! News.

A rep for the pair confirmed in an Aug. 28 statement that they are “taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage.”
Although they both still reportedly wear their wedding rings, the “Red 2” actress and her estranged husband have been attending to work obligations on opposite sides of the globe.
Zeta-Jones made her first public appearance since news broke of their split at a red carpet event in China’s Shandong province. The star-studded event marked the launch of a new $5 billion film studio and plans for an annual Chinese film festival hosted by AMC Entertainment, People reported.

The actress is reportedly still in Asia.
The “Behind the Candelabra” actor was on hand at the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, where he accepted the award for lead actor in HBO’s Liberace biopic.
Despite their reported marriage woes, Douglas ended his speech by thanking his wife and later said in an interview that he’s hopeful for a reconciliation, noting that divorce is not in their plans.
“Catherine is great. She is doing wonderful, talked to her today [and] just got a lovely note from her,” he told Access Hollywood at the award show. “I’m very hopeful that we’re going to work things out.”
