Singers Avril Lavigne and Deryck Whibley in happier times in 2007. Whibley is finally letting go of her last name.
Avril Lavigne's ex-husband has been carrying around a piece of her three years after their divorce.
Sum 41's Deryck Jason Lavigne Whibley legally took his wife's name when they said "I do" in 2006, and Thursday filed the documents to drop it, TMZ reported.

While it was not known the rocker had legally taken Lavigne's name at the time as a second middle name, it comes as a surprise that he has waited this long to lose it.
The couple divorced in 2010 after four years of marriage and Lavigne has been remarried to Nickelback frontman Chad Kroger since the summer.

Whibley poked fun at his ex-wife and her new husband last year on Halloween by dressing up as her with his girlfriend, who dressed up as Kroger.
"Hey Deryck loved the costumes!" Kroeger tweeted from Nickelback's handle in 2012.
