CBS is working on a spinoff to “How I Met Your Mother,” though it it would not include any of the characters from the hit sitcom that’s wrapping up at the end of this season.
Executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas would join Emily Spivey from the late “Up All Night” to produce the spinoff show for 20th Century Fox, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The spinoff would have a similar plotline: a girl’s quest to find her Baby Daddy.
“How I Met Your Mother,” which stars Neil Patrick Harris, has become one of CBS’s most reliable sitcoms.
At a time when CBS and other networks have had a hard time developing new sitcoms, spinoffs are seen as better able to draw on an established fan base.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that ABC is considering ways to spin a new show off from its biggest hit, “Modern Family.”
