PS 148 was one of 25 schools chosen nationwide for the Target School Makeover Program. The makeovers typically cost about $200,000, a Target official said.

It received 2,000 books, 10 iPads, a smart board — and a renovated library. Each student also received seven books to take home with them.

“This is going to help kids want to read more and learn more,” said school principal Nancy Birson. The old library was “certainly not a 21st century library.”

Frye read the kids a book about a cow that loves cookies.

“Education and learning should be a part of everyone’s lives,” she told the Daily News. “Every child should have the chance to have books at their fingertips.”
