It's hard to imagine the role of Marnie on "Girls" being played by anyone but Allison Williams, but the part almost went to someone else.
As reported by Page Six, producers originally wanted the role of Marnie to go to series creator Lena Dunham's real-life best friend Audrey Gelman, but Gelman turned the role down to continue her job as spokeswoman for Manhattan borough president Scott Stringer.
Gelman went on to take on a smaller role on the HBO series in Season 2 as Charlie's (Christopher Abbott) new girlfriend Audrey. But with Abbott exiting the series because it "wasn't relatable" for him, it seems unlikely that Gelman will make another appearance.
Season 3 of "Girls" will premiere on HBO on Sunday, January 12 at 10 p.m. EST on HBO.
