Carol Burnett joins the likes of Tina Fey, Ellen DeGeneres and others in receiving the Mark Twain honor for humor.
Julie Andrews, Tony Bennett, Tina Fey and other stars are gathering in Washington to honor Carol Burnett as she receives the nation's top humor prize at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Burnett will receive the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on Sunday night in a show featuring top comedians and entertainers. The performance will be taped and broadcast on PBS stations Nov. 24.

Burnett says it's a thrill to receive the award named for humorist and satirist Mark Twain. She says she's in good company with past honorees. They include Fey, Bill Cosby, Steve Martin, Lily Tomlin and Ellen DeGeneres.
In an interview, Burnett joked that she hopes the doors will open "so we can get in" to the Kennedy Center following the government shutdown.
